Whenever you visit a cat show, you will find amazing cats of
different sizes, shapes, and breeds competing to earn points, rosettes,
and recognition toward the winning title. There will be 6 to 8 rings in
which the cats will contend. Judges will be looking at the cats based on
their breed standard and presentation.
Each cat is assigned an entry number for the show these are the
numbers that each exhibitor will be listening for and when called out
they will take their cats to the appropriate ring to be judged. All cats
not in a show ring will be in the “benching area”. This is where
exhibitors and their cats wait. It is likely most show cages will be
decorated their own style; sometimes, the shows sponsor a cage
decorating contest. It is always fun to walk through the decorated cages
where cats throw their little tantrums.
NOTE:
If you want to participate in a cat show with a particular
breed, you can simply search the website and get a lot of information
from various organization and clubs. Some of the largest in the world
are CFA and TICA, but there are others that can also be loads of fun
such as LCWW and ACFA. But we suggest you visit several shows before
deciding if this is for you!
Attending shows will allow you to see the
many breeds and their characteristics. So relax, and enjoy the best cat
shows!
WHAT WILL YOU EXPERIENCE IN A CAT SHOW?
Cat shows are one of the best platforms where you can learn a lot
about cats! There you will see plenty of cats trying to handle their
owners, or we should say the opposite, but this situation is lovely to
watch!
In a cat show, you will see that the owners are trying to perfectly manicure their cats to achieve the best results!
There are cats of all types- purebred
cats, domestics, longhaired, shorthaired and even cats with no hair! You
will see many breeds such as Persians, Ragdolls, Sphynx, Siamese, Maine
coons, Singapura, Bengals, and Norwegian Forest cats. You may also see
new breeds which are under development!
Cats shows are the perfect place to get all the understanding you
need to get to know about different breeds of cats; you can directly
contact the breeder to obtain more information on your breed of
choice. There is one thing that you have to keep in mind if you are
planning to visit any cat show,i.e., YOU CAN’T PET THE CATS THERE.
Many people ask, can they pet the cats at the cat shows? The answer
is generally a big no! The reason behind this is that, at these times
the cats are getting groomed for perfection and sanitation.
If you want to pet the cat, you should get permission from the owner!
Don’t be surprised if you are asked to wash your hands first or use
hand sanitizer.
HOW CAN YOU FIND THAT THERE IS A CAT SHOW NEAR YOU?
On your Google search engine, you should search for “cat shows near me,” and you will see the results. Secondly,
you can also check out the website for CFA, TICA, LCWW or other
association; they regularly update their website regarding cat shows!
Some even have mentoring programs.
